4. Garbage Day

Garbage day may be an unlikely Breathe in Life Moment but now that cities “pick up” trash only every other week – lets face it, garbage day has become an event.

It’s a time to empty the garbage bags, tie up the newspapers, squish the pop cans and take the biodegradable bags of vegetable scraps out of the freezer.

As you collect, sort, tie, flatten, and lug out the bags, blue boxes and green bins, you congratulate yourself that you have finally achieved a sense of accomplishment that your day job doesn’t always provide.

As you proudly gaze at the organized and stacked bins at the curb, you just know that your house will be brighter and cleaner, your life less cluttered and the planet greener.

3. The perfect crèma on your morning expresso

Not all Breathe in Life Moments need to be earth-shaking. That first coffee of the day – it makes getting up out of bed so worthwhile. The espresso maker clatters away, the heavy aroma of the fresh coffee beans –mmm. And finally, ready to sip with the perfect crèma the lovely, golden foam of coffee oils that covers a straight shot of espresso. Thick with aroma and flavor and a heady blast to get you started for the day.

2. Viewing Saturn on a Starry Night

Seeing Saturn’s rings live for the first time

In many respects, Saturn is the most wondrous and recognized planet. We love its pinky circular striped colors and the mystery of those rings and thanks to the Hubble telescope we have all seen fabulous pictures of this famous planet.

One very cold night in May I stood on a hill and looked through a telescope. Saturn. There it was – as I bent my head down and squinted awkwardly through the eyepiece I saw it - a creamy 3 dimensional globe surrounded by a ring the outline of which could be seen encircling the front of the perfect pure planet.

Saturn inspires us to believe that there is more to life and maybe after life than that which we can actually see with the naked eye.

On a dark clear night sky go to a place where there are no city lights – look up way up and enjoy the millions of shining stars.

1. 100 Pink Tulips

1. The 100 Pink Tulips
What do you do when you know you only have a limited time left to live? You might assume that you would fly off to exotic lands – see all the wonders of the world, exploring deserts, jungles and mountaintops. But if faced with too few days and too many things to see and do – it might be the small and simple pleasures that capture your heart.
So it was with our sister Anne. Instead of flying off on an adventure Anne spent some of her precious time post lung transplant gardening and planting 100 pink tulips. This weekend after the gloom of winter, the 100 pink tulips– were vibrant and alive in her front garden. How very clever of her –now every year we will welcome spring with these cheerful flowers full of life, hope and remebrance.
